Dow and Davy license LP Oxo℠ Technology to Shaanxi Yanchang n-Butanol project
Shaanxi Yanchang Petroleum Yan’an Energy and Chemical Co., Ltd.( Yan’an Energy) belongs to Shaanxi Yanchang Petroleum (Group) Co., Ltd. (Yanchang Petroleum), the fourth largest NOC in China.
Yan’an Energy is planning to invest in a single integrated LP Oxo℠ plant, as part of Yanchang Petroluem Yan’an Coal-Gas-Oil Resources Integration Complex in Luoyang Village, Fucheng Town, Fu County, Shaanxi Province, China.
In this chemical complex, Yan’an Energy is planning to co-produce:
– n-Butanol (normal butanol)
– Iso butanol
To do so Yanchang Petroleum and its affiliate Yan’an Energy have selected Davy LP Oxo℠ Technology using Dow’s proprietary NORMAX™ Catalyst.
The new plant adopts the industry-first design based on Davy and Dow state-of-the-art LP Oxo℠ Technology that specializes in the production of 2-propylheptanol and butanols within one combined facility.
This new LP Oxo℠ plant will have a capacity of:
– 80,000 t/y 2-propylheptanol
– 206,000 t/y n-Butanol
– 7,000 t/y iso butanol.
For Davy Process Technology (DPT), this Yan’an Energy facility will be the 48th plant using the LP Oxo℠ Technology.
In selecting Davy LP Oxo℠ Technology using Dow NORMAX™ Catalyst, Yan’an Energy expect to build its market leadership in the oxo-alcohol market provided by the low feedstock and energy requirements of this process.
LP Oxo℠ Technology
LP Oxo℠ Technology is a low-pressure hydroformylation process that is most commonly used with propylene and synthesis gas (a mixture of hydrogen and carbon monoxide) to produce normal- and isobutyraldehydes.
These butyraldehydes are then converted into 2-ethylhexanol (2-EH) and normal- and isobutanol.
