Chevron Phillips Ethane Cracker in Baytown, Texas

Chevron Phillips Ethane Cracker in Baytown, TexasChevron Phillips Chemical Corporation (CP Chem) has selected its existing Cedar Bayou facility in Baytown, Texas, USA, to build its new “world-scale” 1.5 million t/y ethylene plant. The ethane will come from the local shale gas resources considered now as a competitive and sustainable feed stock.

The ethane cracker will use the Shaw technology and after completing the feasibility study, CP Chem signed an agreement with Shaw Energy and Chemicals to design the ethane cracker.

Then CP Chem will build two units of 500 000 t/y each of polyethylene using its own licenses. These polyethylene units might be located in the same location or close by in Old Ocean, Texas, USA. Final decision for that location should be made this month.

Final approvals are on track to be expected by end of 2013, the estimated date of completion of the project is 2017.
